Yellow Dyes

Weld and other Yellow Dyes

Weld-dyed fabric plus woad & madder behind

Yellow is a very easy colour to produce from natural dyes. The most light and wash fast yellows are found in Weld and Dyers’ Greenweed, and the dye pigment in both is luteolin.

Black oak, onion skins and many other plants contain quercitin, which produces a nice yellow, although it is not so colour fast.
